The green flag is set to drop on the inaugural 906 SIM League this Saturday night at 8PM on the online racing Simulation service iRacing. A 100 lap trial race will test the waters for the new league. The league, founded by former track promoter and current racer, Chuck Carmin, strives to bring together drivers from all of the Upper Peninsula’s tracks and communities to compete in the virtual world. Carmin, who has run recently in the Ultimate SIM League with Wisconsin drivers such as Andy Monday, Eric Mahlik, and Jeff Stenburgen, hopes the league will give drivers a chance to stay sharp in the offseason and help grow the crop of talent in the UP across all divisions. “This is a platform where all divisions of drivers can meet on the same track and go at it,” Carmin said. He added that money also is not a huge factor in being competitive on iRacing, citing NASCAR driver and Super Late Model star Ty Majeski (@TyMajeski on Twitter) as an example. Majeski, who began his career on the short tracks in Wisconsin, runs the program on a laptop with an external fan for cooling. On his modest rig (Pictured Below), Majeski became the highest rated oval racing driver in the world on iRacing.
To participate in the league, Carmin has established a simple criteria for drivers to meet to become eligible.
“Just keep the racing clean and race at least once at a UP track or be a club member at a UP track,” he added, “past participation counts as well for retired drivers looking to mix it up.”
