The Upper Peninsula International Raceway schedule for the 2020 season has been released via the track’s Facebook page. The post, which featured a picture of a schedule print out, read, “So here’s the schedule let’s go racing boys.” (Full schedule pictured at end of story.)
Eleven races will make up the 2020 championship season, with a twelfth race, the annual Border Battle, bringing the season to a close in September. To reach the Border Battle, however, there are four months packed with action to traverse first.
Racing gets underway on the final day of May, Sunday the 31st. The action then returns to the customary Saturday night slot as eight consecutive weeks of dirt slingin’ follow the opener, with the exception of the July 3rd round of racing which runs on a Friday night.
Drivers and teams will have a week off to regroup at the end of July before getting back at it on August 8th. Another break will follow the August 8th event, this one a two week hiatus from competition.
UPIR will be the exclamation point that brings to close the UP State Fair with the championship season finale once again taking place on the final day of the Fair, Sunday August 23rd. Last year’s Fair Race brought the inaugural Bob Iverson Memorial Trophy Race. It is not clear at this time whether the event will return to the same race weekend this year.
Following the crowning of the track champions, the non-points Border Battle will bring the racing season to a close on September 19th.
More info for specific event dates, such as the Art Richer Memorial and Fan Appreciation Night, will be released when available.
